The 12th edition of the Roseta Mauri International Award features, as usual, relevant figures from the world of dance.<\/p>

Furthermore, the Award is one of the best economically endowed competitions held in the Spanish State.<\/p>

Joaqu\u00edn de Luz, former principal dancer of the New York City Ballet, returns as president of the jury. The rest of the jury members are Jone San Mart\u00edn, Mathieu Ganio, and Paola Vismara. Arantxa Arg\u00fcelles will be the classical dance teacher (or mistress of classical dance) and Llu\u00eds Carmona will accompany her on the piano. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

He began his ballet studies at the school and company of V\u00edctor Ullate. In 1996, the Pennsylvania Ballet offered him a position in the company as a Soloist Dancer. In 1997, he joined the corps de ballet of the American Ballet Theater in New York, and a year later he was named Soloist Dancer. In 2003, he joined the New York City Ballet as a Soloist Dancer and was appointed Principal Dancer two years later, in 2005. With this company, he danced at the Lincoln Center in New York, as well as in the most important theatres in the world. He performed major roles in the classical and neoclassical repertoire, especially works by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, and Peter Martins. Furthermore, de Luz has also danced contemporary ballets by Susan Stroman, Christopher Wheeldon, Wayne McGregor, Alexei Ratmansky, and Justin Peck. <\/p>

He directed Compa\u00f1\u00eda Nacional de Danza (2019-2024). De Luz has also received numerous awards such as the Benois de la Danse in 2009 and in 2016 he was awarded with the Spain\u2019s Ministry of Culture National Prize for Dance in the category of performance. Jone San Mart\u00edn’s artistic career has developed mainly in Belgium and Germany, where she has worked in numerous companies such as Archipel Sud and Phillippe Talard’s Ulmer Theater. In 1992, William Forsythe invited her to join the Frankfurt Ballet, and since then, her career as a performer and Soloist Dancer has been closely linked to the work of the American choreographer. She was part of The Forsythe Company from its creation in 2005 until its dissolution in 2015. As a choreographer, she has presented pieces such as Ser, estar o parecer, Juana la otra, Leg\u00edtimo Rezo, Jugo, Any Body Sounds, among other titles. In 2006, Jone San Mart\u00edn received the Artistic Trajectory Award granted by the Association of Dance Professionals of Guip\u00fazcoa, and in 2016 she was awarded a Carte Blanche by the city of Donostia (San Sebasti\u00e1n). <\/p>

Currently, her choreographic research focuses on communication, collaborating with non-hearing persons and sign language translators to reveal the powers of physical languages. Her recent works on deafness include “ADITU 1” (San Sebasti\u00e1n), “ADITU 2” (Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern and Palzinstitut f\u00fcr H\u00f6ren und Kommunikation, Frankenthal), and “sORDA”, a new solo premiered at Matadero Madrid. <\/p>

Born in Marseille, Ganio trained at the \u00c9cole Nationale Sup\u00e9rieure de danse in his hometown. In 1999, he entered the school of the Paris Op\u00e9ra Ballet and two years later joined the corps de ballet of the French company. Ganio quickly rose through the ranks and was named \u00c9toile in 2004 after performing in Don Quixote (Rudolf Nureyev version). In 2005, he was recognised with the Prix Benois de la Danse. In 2020, he was named officier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. <\/p>

Ganio’s repertoire includes principal roles in Romantic, Classical and dramatic ballets, a broad repertoire of neo-classical works by George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins, ballets by Serge Lifar, Roland Petit, Maurice B\u00e9jart, Pierre Lacotte and Angelin Preljocaj, as well as multiple works by John Neumeier, William Forsythe and Wayne McGregor. With the Paris Op\u00e9ra Ballet, he has performed in the United States of America, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Japan and Australia. Paola Vismara graduated from the Scuola di ballo del Teatro alla Scala in 1988, which she subsequently joined. During her brilliant career as a dancer, she performed in prestigious Italian theatres such as the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, the MaggioDanza company of the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In these companies, she starred in important roles such as Giselle, La Sylphide, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker, and Carmen, among many others, in addition to collaborating with highly relevant choreographers. For many years, Vismara was the dance partner of Maximiliano Guerra, with whom she participated in numerous galas around the world. <\/p>

In the year 2000, she began teaching at different Italian dance schools and companies such as Aterballetto, Balletto di Toscana, Balletto di Torino, and MaggioDanza. In 2011, she joined the La Scala Theatre Ballet School in Milan, where she teaches classes in advanced courses, instructs on repertory, and assists the choreographers in the school’s productions. Arg\u00fcelles has been a principal dancer with the Spanish National Ballet (Ballet Nacional de Espa\u00f1a), the Berlin State Opera Ballet (Ballet de l\u2019\u00d2pera de Berl\u00edn), and the Royal Danish Ballet. She has also worked with great masters such as Maya Plisetskaya and has danced with great dancers like Peter Schauffus, Julio Bocca, Charles Jude, and Laurent Hilaire. In 1997, she was appointed Artistic Director of the Zaragoza Ballet, a position she held for two years.
<\/p>

While overseeing the team at her Dance Centre in Zaragoza, she has been a guest teacher for various European companies, competitions, and events, created productions, and worked as an instructor at the Mariemma, Fortea, and Carmen Amaya Professional Dance Conservatories in Madrid. For the 2023-24 season, she joins the National Dance Company (Compa\u00f1\u00eda Nacional de Danza) as a maestra-repetidora (rehearsal mistress) by invitation of its director, Joaqu\u00edn De Luz. Currently, Arg\u00fcelles is a teacher at the Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera
